It all starts to add up

When I review my store’s anti shoplifting protocols, I see that a lot of things are geared towards the big stops, and the high shrink items. I understand that about 80% of our shrink comes from only about 20% of our SKU specific items, but I find that when I drill down to individual activity in a store, there is always something driving the shrink that has been overlooked.

This is where all of the little items start to add up into one big problem. It’s usually the result of some local group, individual, or employee that is causing the shrink.

Having a back up plan to implement anti theft devices to prevent retail theft in these smaller areas comes in handy. By having the liberty to go above and beyond the company specs is critical to creating a well rounded anti shoplifting strategy.

Sometimes it is good strategy to not sweat the small stuff. Sometimes it is an even better strategy to proactively deter the small things from driving up your shrink numbers.
