And on it goes

My co manager and I made an apprehension the other day. It was a small dollar amount respectively, only around fifty dollars. In some ways, I almost wish that I hadn’t stopped them. It turned out to be more of a hassle than what it was worth.

Don’t get me wrong; one of my primary job descriptions is to prevent retail theft. This is what I signed up for. It is the circumstances around the apprehension that made for a very long day.

It started out as a typical case. A male came into our tool department picked up a few low dollar tools that did not have anti theft devices on them due to the price point. He then stuffed the items into his shirt and then proceeded to walk out the door.

It was after we stopped him that we found out this man was actually only 17 years old. We had to call either his parents or the police to pick him up because of his age. We opted for his parents.

Next thing we know his Mom came, with his two younger (under ten) sisters to pick him up. They were restless as the mom had a billion questions. Later, his dad had to stop by the store with another lengthy set of questions. For the fifty dollars we recovered, w probably spent three times that in payroll dealing with the case.
